Hashima No Okuribito | 端島の送りびと

A design project that allows to analyze the environmental and cultural footprints of modern Japan and to reflect on the future of the archaeological remains of the 20th century. Hashima is a study on the ruins of modernity, how they can be discovered, analyzed, archived, exhibited and how visitors can learn about the history of Hashima before taking pictures as the ruins are an ancillary result of the human ego. 今回、端島（通称：軍艦島）のデザインプロジェクトにあたり、近代日本の自然環境や文化の足跡をたどることとなった。また、これは近代産業遺跡の将来を考える貴重な機会となった。どのように調査し、保管し、展示すればよいのか。また、観光客がただ人間のエゴによる副産物として写真を撮ってしまわないうちに、いかに本当の端島の歴史を知ってもらえるのか。こうした課題を考えることは、他の近代遺産の保存活用の検討にも役立つだろうと考えた。
